Fall Classic Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning clash where the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a combined 51 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen audience increases for two straight years.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s best playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
